Since recently completing the TSM course,
(Training in Supernatural Ministry) I am provoked to pursue living a naturally
supernatural lifestyle… because as far as I can see this IS the normal
Christian life!
But
what does it look like?
The more I read the book of Acts the more I
see the kind of lifestyle that Jesus taught his disciples to demonstrate
The setting of Acts is in a time of persecution. Stephen
has just been stoned to death and Saul is on the rampage to ravage the church.
Christians have fled and been scattered apart from the apostles and yet the
gospel is preached with such boldness and courage and at every opportunity.
But does my life look like the book of Acts? NO not
really!
Should my life look like the book of Acts? Yes I think
it should!
The miracles, the passion, the commitment
to prayer, the boldness, the sacrifice, the extraordinary faith in the midst of
trials?
Is my most pressing need to be filled with
the Holy Spirit every day? Would others want to know my God?
In Acts it describes people being in fear and awe of the
disciples, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid
them on beds and mats as Peter came by so that his shadow might fall on them.
There are open visions, transportations in the Spirit,
resurrections from the dead, deliverance from evil spirits, miraculous release
from prison
I am provoked! Are you?
I love the account of Philip in Acts 8 and his attentiveness
to the voice of the Holy Spirit. When the angel of the Lord says to him to
“Rise and Go” towards the south, to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to
Gaza which was a desert place, I don’t know about you, but it doesn’t sound
that appealing a call and probably at noon when it was the hottest part of the
day, yet… it says “He rose and went”
He heard, he took action and he obeyed! At this stage he
doesn’t know any more other than to go.
When he gets there, the Spirit say “Go over and join the
chariot”
God looks for our availability and obedience and then he
releases more information.
When The Spirit told him what to do it says ‘He ran’. He
wasn’t cautious, hanging back wondering if God really meant it but he ran
boldly and confidently.
I like too that he asked the Eunuch a question. He said,
“Do you understand what you are reading?”
It’s good to ask people questions. When telling people
about Jesus often they will say back to us “Oh I don’t believe in God”. This
happened just the other day when I was in a coffee shop talking to a lady about
Jesus and telling her that Jesus can heal. When people say this, it is good to
ask them the question “Have you ever thought about why you don’t believe?” It’s
an open question. Also a great way to lead on to telling them about the Alpha
Course.
Finally it says ‘Philip opened his mouth’ Sounds obvious
maybe but this
is a phrase frequently used in Jewish writings. It means with freedom and
boldness, he spoke clearly and distinctly, and expounded the passage to him.
A
challenge to us in how we share the gospel. How prepared are we? Do we know how
to share the gospel simply and clearly?
I hope
to blog regularly about my experiences and encounters as I keep pursuing this
supernatural walk with God. I am provoked.
Are you?
